How do I get my fox terrier to stop barking everytime I go upstairs?
My parents adopted 2 fox terriers a few years ago. They were rescue dogs from a possibly abusive home. The female can't climb stairs very well so she doesn't try. The male has no trouble getting up and down the stairs and does so as he pleases. EVERYTIME I walk upstairs he starts barking, pacing in small circles, whining, and panting. He also lifts his leg on my mom's antique table and usually leaves a pile in the kitchen. Also, if I am in my room upstairs and make any small sound, such as turning over in my bed or dropping an earring he goes ballistic and doesn't stop barking. Sometimes he'll eventually run upstairs and then he is silent. It is only when he is on the first floor that he flips out. This is unbearable and it's ridiculous that I can't ever go upstairs!
He also freaks out and trembles, paces, and pants excessively on a windy day or if he hears hunters shooting in the woods. I swear there is no consoling him and these "accidents" in the house are ridiculous.
