Let me propose a very simple question to you. When purchasing fine jewelry, you have basically two main options when it comes to the type of stone that's going to be in your jewelry. Would you rather have a gorgeous CZ or an overpriced diamond? Now granted, diamonds have been around much longer but here me out.
Diamonds are extremely overpriced because traditional folks make a lot of money selling them to you. It's become more of a business to sell diamonds then a luxury to own one. Don't agree? Then why have diamonds become less rare and higher priced over the last 100 years? It's a proven fact.
What I would like to suggest is that for those of you that don't want to burn a lot of money on an expensive diamond purchase, you should really consider CZ jewelry. Gemologist all over the world agree that a cubic zirconia stone, which is a man made diamond, are considered to be the best man-made diamond for jewelry on the market today.
To be able to tell the distinction between a cubic zirconia and a diamond you must learn the characteristics of the cubic zirconia. These same characteristics make them look comparable to a diamond and also make them different from a diamond. Chances are you are not going to have this kind of scale put away on a shelf, but the cubic zirconia's hardness is calculated to be 8.3 on the Mohs scale, whereas the diamond will register a 10. You probably noticed that they aren't too far apart on the scale, but they are very far apart on the pricing.
So that basically means it's very tough for the average person to tell the difference between the two with their naked eye. The idea of blowing a full year's worth of income for a piece of stone on a piece of metal just seems crazy to me.
